Dr. Karen Foreman Jackson, a passionate advocate for student success, is an assistant professor of education and associate dean of advising programs at Georgia Gwinnett College. Her career spans over 30 years and includes work as an elementary school teacher, college administrator, and assistant professor. Dr. Jackson was the inaugural director of the GGC Student Success Advising Center, which won the University System of Georgia Chancellor’s Gold Award for Service Excellence and the National Academic Advising Association Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Advising Programs. She has led the development and implementation of several innovative programs and initiatives to support first-year students, first-generation students, students of color, and students in academic recovery. Dr. Jackson is an alumna of the HERS Leadership Institute and a recipient of the National Society of Leadership and Success – Excellence in Service to Students. She is a co-editor for the book Developing and Implementing Promising Practices and Programs for First-Generation College Students and a contributing author to No Ways Tires: The journey of professionals of color in student affairs. Volume II: By and By: Mid-Level Professionals. Dr. Jackson holds an Ed.D. in Education Policy Studies from George Washington University, a M.Ed. in Higher Education from the College of William & Mary, and a B.S. in Public Administration from James Madison University. Originally from Norfolk, VA, Dr. Jackson currently resides in Georgia with her husband and two daughters.
